How the wire-up works

Three things to know: the protocol, the credential, and what the alert payload looks like. The setup is the same on free and Pro.

Protocol
webhook
Credential
Homeserver URL (e.g. https://matrix.org) + access token (from a user or dedicated bot account) + room ID (e.g. !abcdef:matrix.org).
Payload
Client-Server API messages/m.room.message with formatted body and plain fallback. The token is scoped to the user it was created for; use a dedicated bot account to keep blast radius down.

What it supports

The grid below describes what the channel itself supports once wired up. All channels are available on the free plan unless the badge says otherwise.

Free planSupportedNo card, no expiry.
Pro planSupportedSame on free and Pro.
InteractiveNot supportedOne-way push only.
Incoming mentionsNot supportedOutbound-only.
Rich attachmentsNot supportedPlain text or simple message.
TLS in transitSupportedHTTPS / WSS — no plaintext fallback.

When Matrix is the right pick

You self-host Matrix or use an EU-hosted one for privacy reasons. End-to-end encrypted rooms are supported as long as the bot account is in the room.
